Press conference: 14.00-14.30 CET, 22 January, Arctic Basecamp
Media are invited to join the Arctic Basecamp team in Davos for a press conference that doubles down on the essential message that science is the compass on which our future depends.
As 2024 goes down as our warmest year yet, it’s clear science must lead the way to a sustainable, equitable future. Yet too often we see hesitation from leaders when evidence-based action is needed most.
The press conference is at 14.00-14.30 CET on 22 January at the iconic Arctic Basecamp, a real Polar science expedition camp located outside the Hotel Schatzalp. We recommend catching the 13.30 or 13.45 funicular.
Hear from academic experts and climate leaders, including:
- Professor Johan Rockström, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
- Professor Gail Whiteman, Arctic Basecamp and the University of Exeter
- Professor Joyeeta Gupta (tbc), University of Amsterdam
- Wendy Broadgate, Earth Commission
- Sandrine Dixson-Declève, The Club of Rome
- Carlos Nobre, International Science Council
It will be followed by a panel event at 14.45-15.45 CET at the Arctic Basecamp tent that will explore essential topics such as the planet’s safe and just boundaries, translating scientific insights into action, and making the business case for sustainability. The expert speakers will be joined by Arctic Basecamp Youth Ambassadors Kamila Camilo, Justin Langan and Mariah Seater, as well as Jane Madgwick from the Global Commons Alliance.
